Internships are designed to enrich and enhance the student's experiential learning through real world applications. Also, they may be viewed to be a place to showcase one's talent for future employment, as well as, for the resume' value. Internships are not a graduation requirement in the School of Business, but are strongly encouraged as a crucial link in the learning experience.

Internship Placement
Internships are developed from two sources:

1) Contacts developed through institutional relationships
2) Student initiated contacts, approved for internship credit

Internship Fields (industry)
The following internship fields, by industry, have been held by recent interning students:

• Accounting
• Brokerage
• Banking
• Insurance
• Retail
• Personnel
• Government (city, state, federal)
• Non-profit
• Small business

Policies that govern the granting of internship credit include:

1. Internships must guarantee a bona fide learning experience that possesses breadth and depth.
   
2. Internships must have exposure and responsibility that extends beyond a normal hourly part-time job description. Only professional positions will be considered.
   
3. A student must have at least 65 college level-credit hours accumulated before an internship can be taken.
   
4. The student will work a minimum of 3 hours per week for 12 weeks for each hour of academic credit (1 hour credit = 3 hours of work experience per week; 2 hours of credit = 6 hours of work experience per week; 3 hours of credit = 9-10 hours of work per week). Internships may be either paid or unpaid.
   
5. The student will meet with the prospective supervisor for the internship and agree upon a stated list of objectives to be accomplished during the internship. These objectives must be presented to Randall Spindle, School of Business Internship Director, for approval. All internships must be approved prior to enrollment for course credit and beginning the internship experience.
   
6. Following are the course requirements for the intern:
   a. Maintain a concise diary of all activities and experiences.
   b. Write a 4-6 page paper (typed and double spaced) at the end of the experience, highlighting the areas of work and observations about each objective. The papers should also attempt to relate the experience to some area of academic study in business.
