Audition Guidelines

Piano

Prepare to perform two contrasting pieces, one of which needs to be chosen from “classical” repertoire (Bach, Beethoven, Chopin, etc.). Memorization is encouraged but not required. The second piece may be classical in nature, a published sacred arrangement, or an improvisation.


Voice

Prepare two contrasting songs; memorization is required. Appropriate literature, listed in order of preference:

A. Vocal contest literature (English or foreign language art song, opera or oratorio aria, or

B. Song from a Broadway musical, or

C. Published sacred arrangement (Contemporary Christian solo or hymn)


Strings

Prepare two contrasting pieces; memorization is encouraged but not required. One of the two pieces needs to be chosen from “classical” music repertoire; the other may be an etude or a published sacred arrangement.


Winds, Brass, & Percussion

Prepare two contrasting pieces; memorization is encouraged but not required.  Appropriate literature, listed in order of preference:

A. Solo pieces prepared for district, regional or state contest, or

B. Etudes prepared for honor group auditions, or

C. Published sacred arrangements
