Media Strategies Intern Information

Why intern with the Media Strategies Team?

Hands on learning! Internships give you great experience for the work world and look great on resumes! Potential employers want to know you’ve got the degree, but what separates you from the other hundreds of people applying with a similar degree? Why not slap on a killer MST internship to that resume?! Through your internship, you’ll be working on projects aimed at promoting SNU to all her external audiences (alumni, prospective students and their families, our regional churches, donors, and friends). There are opportunities for students interested in all areas of media! Video, Graphic Design, Web, Photography, Writing, Marketing and Social Networking! You will be working collaboratively with our creative team in a fun office setting to dream BIG dreams (a Dream Team if you will), and then put those dreams into action.

Internship Info

First of all, you’ll need to check with your academic advisor to see what steps you’ll need to take to gain credit. Each department is different, so don’t assume you know. If you don’t have a major with a direct application to Media, Technology, Marketing, or Communications, you may be able to use the internship as an elective credit. Again, we say...ask!

Because of the nature of the work, we are looking for student who can devote at least 8 hours a week.  8-12 hours a week would be ideal! There may be times when the work load exceeds the weekly hours needed for credit to get a project completed. We won’t work you to the ground...but, again, the nature of this job may require some long hours. Some hours will be between 8am - 5pm, but some evenings and weekends may be needed.

Like any other internship, students cannot be paid for the hours in which you are receiving credit. But we all know you have to eat!  Depending on experience, you will receive a competitive amount that will come in pretty handy to help with your expenses. Not bad! Now is the time to jump, because you must intern for a semester before you can be considered for a paid position. Consider the internship your tryout.

All Interns are required to maintain a 2.5 or higher GPA.

**MST Internships now qualify for Mass Communication Department Practicum credits!
If you are a Mass Comm major, and need practicum credits, this might be an option for you. You do have to apply & be selected for an internship. For more information on the Mass Comm practicum credit option, contact your advisor.

What now?

Hurry - Apply! Apply! Apply! Apply!  Just a few spots are available.  To apply, click on the link below, fill out the online application. We will review the applications, then invite some of the applicants back for an interview.

PREPARE YOUR PORTFOLIO! As with any media-related job, we want to see what you can do. Whatever you think is your best work, we’d love to see it. You can submit your portfolio by either providing us with a link to your online portfolio, or on a CD/DVD. We prefer for everything to be digital (especially video, graphic design, photography, etc...), but if you do have something in hard copy only (i.e. a writing sample), we can take those as well. CREATIVITY COUNTS when creating a portfolio, so make sure the presentation represents your best effort. Be sure to have your portfolio turned in to the Media Strategies Team office (located in Bresee Administration Building 301).  Selected applicants will be notified for an interview.
