Energetic! Selfless! Creative! Giving! Just a few adjectives that describe the participants of this year’s Commission Unto Mexico trip to Monclova. The group came together on December 27th in Eagle Pass, Texas with the challenge to give up their personal preferences and take on the preferences of Christ.
Eileen Ruger, M.R.E, Southern Nazarene University Professor of Theology and Ministry and Director of the Commission Unto Mexico trip stated, “What a tremendous privilege to lead such a group who took on this challenge and served along side their Mexican brothers and sisters to reach the communities of Monclova.” This year’s participants came from across the South Central Region states of Oklahoma, Texas, Arkansas and Louisiana as well as Washington, Maine, California, Virginia, Ohio, Colorado, Missouri and Indiana. “The group was equipped with powerful servant-leaders that headed up the team sites and were blessed with talented musicians, athletes, children’s workers, construction workers, medical staff, etc., who gave everything to serve,” said Ruger.
The group of 140 participants included 50 who were under 18 years of age. Highlights included a mobile soccer camp, mobile medical unit, children’s ministries, and six work sites. Work projects for this trip included painting, pouring concrete, building additions, restoring, landscaping, constructing walls, hanging sheet rock, installing bathrooms, repairing parsonages and constructing benches.
“Please continue to pray for the people of Monclova and the work that they will continue to do for their communities. Pray for next year’s trip as the Lord prepares our hearts to continue in this partnership,” said Ruger.
