BETHANY, OK (November 9, 2012) – Dr. Loren Gresham, President of Southern Nazarene University, has been elected to a three-year extension of his term as President.
The Board of Trustees of Southern Nazarene University met on November 8, 2012 and voted unanimously for the extension. Gresham, currently concluding a five-year commitment, has agreed to the extension of his service, with his new contract concluding in June of 2016.
"The Board of Trustees was unanimous in our desire to have Dr. Gresham continue his record of outstanding leadership of Southern Nazarene University." said Brad Moore, Chairman of the Board. “"He's an outstanding leader, and the Board is delighted that he's agreed to accept this election."
Beginning his presidency in 1989, Gresham is in his 46th year at the University and is currently serving his 23rd year as President. He is the longest serving college or university President in Oklahoma and also the longest tenured President in Nazarene higher education.
Since being appointed as President, Gresham has raised awareness of SNU in the greater Oklahoma City area through his service on boards of many influential organizations in both the business and academic communities.
In addition to serving the external community, Gresham has left his mark on the SNU Bethany campus as well. The Wall of Missions in Bresee Hall, the Marchant Alumni and Welcome Center, the Imel Townhouses, Sawyer Athletic Complex, Southern Plaza, the Centennial Gates and the Hall of Witnesses are all a tangible legacy of his leadership abilities and his desire to make the university a place of transformation.
However, his greatest love is for the students of SNU. He enjoys recruiting students, and he knows scores of them by name. It is not uncommon for him to make personal phone calls and home visits to prospective students each year. Hundreds of students experience the Gresham’s hospitality when they visit their home, which is often the center for student gatherings.
With the acceptance of this extension of his leadership, Dr. Gresham and the entire campus family look forward to continued growth and mission achievement.
Southern Nazarene University's mission is to transform lives through higher education in Christ-centered community. As a Christian community of scholars, we model the hospitality of grace, the pursuit of truth and the practice of discipleship, all within the Wesleyan-holiness tradition, as we prepare graduates who THINK with clarity, ACT with integrity and SERVE with purpose.
