History

In the course of studying American, European, and World history, students in the history program practice thinking critically and communicating effectively by:

  • writing book and article reviews.
  • writing analytical and interpretative essays.
  • writing research reports.
  • making presentations and conversing effectively about important topics in the field
Students learn research skills by:
  • identifying information relevant to historical research projects.
  • evaluating information with regard to accuracy, authenticity, and authority.
  • retrieving, recording and managing information for use in research and documentation.

Social Studies Education

Students in the Social Studies Education Program are provided with opportunities to obtain the knowledge and skills to achieve state certification to teach social studies and to become effective social studies teachers.

Effective social studies teachers possess knowledge of:

  • individuals, groups and institutions.
  • power, authority and governance.
  • production, distribution and consumption.

Politics and Law

In the course of studying politics and law students practice critical thinking and effective communication by:

American Studies

In this cross-disciplinary Bachelor of Science program in English and history, you will be prepared for a variety vocations that require an in-depth understanding of American culture and historical context. This may include further study in law, academic and/or public history, government, business, or ministry.

International Studies

This program offers a multidisciplinary B.A. degree in business, political science and modern language and is designed to serve a variety of vocational areas, such as international business, international nonprofit organizations, diplomacy, communications, travel, and international law.

Geography Minor

As a student studying for a Geography minor at SNU, you may be required to take some courses in off-campus settings. We encourage students to take advantage of SNU's QERC research facility in Costa Rica or the various chances to study abroad coordinated through the SNU Center for Global Engagement.
