On Saturday, December 13th, a total of 337 undergraduate and graduate degree candidates participated in the 2008 Winter Commencement at Southern Nazarene University. One of the highlights of graduation was the group of degree candidates who shared the podium as featured speakers; Mrs. Barbara Koop, Master’s degree, Ms. Andrea Kesterson, Bachelor’s degree, and Mrs. Trish Myers, Bachelor’s degree.
As a part of this 106th Commencement, SNU was honored to present posthumously the Bachelor of Science degree to Tulsa Assistant Fire Chief, Harold Gene McCoy. As a student in the Organizational Leadership program at the SNU Tulsa Center, Harold’s time was more meaningful to him than simply taking classes and working toward a degree, as he also accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior. This change of heart and belief was evident in his genuine care for his classmates, instructors and coworkers. On September 5, 2008, Harold Gene McCoy passed away at age 57. This posthumous degree was given in recognition of the coursework he completed, and as a tribute to his esteemed life that deeply touched the staff of the SNU Tulsa Center, the Tulsa community and beyond.
Earlier in the day nursing degree candidates were honored at the traditional Nursing Ceremony held in Cantrell Auditorium.
Southern Nazarene University is a faith-filled community, educating students for responsible Christian living through its motto; building CHARACTER, shaping CULTURE, and serving CHRIST.
