Southern Nazarene University President Emeritus Ponder Gilliland was hospitalized following a stroke on July 2. Regarded by many as a respected leader in the Church of the Nazarene, Gilliland is reported to have lost his sight and ability to swallow.
While he remains under the watchful care of medical professionals, as of Tuesday, July 7, doctors estimated he may only have a week or two to live.
Gilliland has served as a pastor in California, Arkansas, Oklahoma (Bethany First), and Texas (Dallas First). He also served as superintendent of the San Antonio, Texas, District. From 1985-1989, Gilliland was president of Southern Nazarene University.
He and his wife, Ellen, currently reside in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
Prayer is requested for the Gilliland family during this difficult time.
