SNU Athletic Training Education program receives 10 year accreditation from the CAATE

BETHANY, OK --- The Commission on Accreditation for Athletic Training Education (CAATE) announced its accreditation award of 10 years for the Southern Nazarene University (SNU) Athletic Training Education program.

News that Southern Nazarene University received as a result of the comprehensive evaluation of SNU’s program, including a self-study and on-site visit was that the CAATE has voted to award continuing accreditation to the Athletic Training Education program at SNU. 

“Programs typically receive a 5 or 7 year accreditation cycle,” said Dr. Sylvia Goodman, Ed.D., L.A.T.,C, Chair, Department of Kinesiology; Athletic Training Director of Southern Nazarene University.  “A ten year award is rare and speaks very highly of the educational quality of the SNU Athletic Training Education program.” 

The SNU program met all of the nationally recognized standards for entry-level athletic training education that are supported by these sponsoring organizations:  the American Academy of Family Physicians, the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American Orthopedic Society for Sports Medicine, and the National Athletic Trainers Association, Inc. 

As a result of the award, the Athletic Training Education program’s next comprehensive review, including a self-study and on-site review, will occur during the 2018 – 2019 academic year. 

“The Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education commends the faculty, staff, and administrators at Southern Nazarene University for the commitment to the advancement of quality education in Athletic Training, as well as the dedication to the preparation of highly qualified Athletic Training professionals,” as referenced from the Official CAATE letter of congratulations sent to SNU on August 24, 2009.
