SNU campus plan brings Jernigan Hall down

(BETHANY, OKLA.) --- Onlookers watched as Jernigan Hall, the 1945 vintage building on the campus of Southern Nazarene University (SNU) was demolished early on Tuesday morning July 21, 2009.  The building was originally used as a women’s dormitory and most recently for the SNU School for Children.

“By the time school starts, the space where this facility has been will be additional green space for the Bud Robinson Mall,” said Dr. Loren Gresham, President of SNU.  “We will be honoring the Jernigan name in other facilities on campus.”

The demolished vintage building was named after Rev. C. B. Jernigan who was the founder of the town of Bethany, in 1909. That same year Jernigan established the Oklahoma Holiness College on the grounds where SNU sits today.

Jernigan Hall was located on N. Asbury Ave. near 39th Expressway between Bracken Hall and the Herrick Building and Auditorium.  To see a visual map of where Jernigan was, visit http://www.snu.edu/campus-map
