SNU Design Professor Receives ADDY Awards

BETHANY, Okla. (March 10, 2011) - For the past several years, Whitney Porch has taught in the art and design department at Southern Nazarene University. While she has taught different courses throughout the year, her classes this spring include Graphic Design, 2D Fundamentals, Digital Imaging, Professional Practice, and Serigraphy (silk-screening).

Already in 2011, Porch has won three ADDY awards for the Oklahoma City University School of Law Alumni Magazine. The ADDY awards are the advertising industry’s largest and most representative competition, attracting over 50,000 entries every year in local competitions. Their mission is to recognize and reward creative excellence in the art of advertising. The local ADDY awards are the first of a three-tier national competition. A scoring process in which a panel of judges evaluates all creative dimensions of every entry affects the selection of the most creative entry in each category. In each category, Gold, Silver, and Bronze awards are assigned based on the level of creative excellence.

The awards categories the magazine was chosen for were the Best Magazine, Best Cover, and Best Magazine Spread. Near the end of February, Professor Porch will find out which level of award she received for each category at the Awards Gala.

The ADDY award competition supports the whole advertising industry as the American Advertising Federation (AAF) uses the entry proceeds to enhance advertising through programs like public service, internships, advocacy groups, advertising education and consumer awareness.

Beyond the honor of being selected for the awards in the first place, it is an incredible feat of Porch to have been nominated for three. Held in high esteem as a part of Southern Nazarene University, she has greatly benefited the educational experience of many students and helped them develop skills that will give them an advantage in their career field once they graduate.
