(KANSAS CITY, MO.) --- Southern Nazarene University (SNU) junior softball player, Chelsea Lowell, was named a National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Scholar Athlete as was announced on Wednesday, May 20th, by the NAIA.

Lowell, a Business Administration major from Bethany, earns her first Scholar Athlete honor. Lowell, a catcher, finished up the 2009 season with a .277 batting average after starting 50 of 54 games for SNU. Lowell had two homers with 15 RBI’s.
The SNU Women’s Softball team is enjoying its most successful season to date in 2009, finishing with a school record of 36 wins to a 36-19 overall mark for the season.
NAIA Scholar Athletes are nominated by the institution’s head coach, and the student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and have achieved junior academic status to qualify.
