Students Move to A.M. Hills Residential Complex

BETHANY, Okla. (December 17, 2010) – As final tests come to an end at Southern Nazarene University most students are going home for Christmas break, but there’s a small group of students moving into the new A.M. Hills Residential Complex.

This morning the doors opened and excitement filled the air as girls, and a few guys, busily moved bedding, boxes and clothes into their new rooms.

The A.M. Hills Residential Complex holds 288 students in its 4 and 8 person room suites. Students have common lobby’s, study areas and even a common kitchen. An entertainment room contains TV’s, couches and tables on the lower level. New classrooms have been built with smart boards and the Bud Robinson Conference Room holds 300 people for meetings and dinners.

A.M. Hills represents the single largest construction project in the history of SNU, costly roughly $12 Million. A.M. Hill Residential Complex has LEED Silver Certification. The LEED green building certification program encourages and accelerates global adoption of sustainable green building and development practices through a suite of rating systems that recognize projects that implement strategies for better environmental and health performance. The complex is the first facility in the state of Oklahoma to have this certification.

Melissa Esmon is a freshman this year. She said, “We’re all really sad to be leaving Hatley because we’ve made some great memories but we’re so excited to get to be in A.M. Hills.”

We’re really excited to get to open and have the students moving in and for this new chapter at SNU,” said Michael Houston, associate dean of students.

Students will return to campus January 10 and resume classes January 13.
