    Thomson to lead Alumni and Communications at SNU

     BETHANY, OK -- Dr. Terry Toler, Vice President for University Advancement and Church Relations at Southern Nazarene University, recently announced the appointment of Ms. Kendra Thomson as Executive Director of Alumni and Strategic Communications at SNU. Thomson currently serves as Director of Media Strategies for the university, and will continue to lead that team in her new role, leveraging their talents to connect alumni and friends of SNU with new focus and frequency.

“Since receiving her degree from SNU in Mass Communications (’94), Thomson has dedicated herself to the work of the university, proving to be a leader and a creative visionary who wants to implement best practices and cutting-edge media technologies into the important areas of communication and connection with our constituents,” said Dr. Toler. “I have full confidence in her ability to lead, connect and engage all alumni and friends of SNU.”

Dr. Toler also gave appreciation to former Director of Alumni Relations, Ms. Brenda Styers, for her service to the university, with congratulations on her attainment of credentials in counseling, and continued success in her new career.

Within the new structure, Ms. Thomson will have the support of two highly talented colleagues, Mrs. Tollya Spindle, Alumni Specialist and Annual Fund Coordinator (’92,‘97), and Mrs. Marcia Mosshart (’77), Coordinator of Special Events. “They bring years of experience to their roles and a common passion for SNU,” stated Toler, “I trust the SNU family around the globe will join with me in prayer and support of this initiative and these good people.”

Andrew Pottenger ('99) graduated from Nazarene Theological Seminary in 2010 with an M.A. in Theological Studies. For over the past year, Andrew and his wife Gina have served as Mission Corps volunteers in Busingen, Germany. Gina is managing editor of "Engage" magazine and volunteer editor of "Where Worlds Meet", the newsletter for Eurasia Region Church of the Nazarene. Andrew serves in various capacities on the campus of European Nazarene College. He began by operating the campus library and has taught courses on campus as well as developing and teaching online classes. Their assignment began in February 2010, and will continue through January 2012.  (7/11)

 Southern Nazarene University graduate Greg Metcalfe ('98) has joined the Oklahoma City law firm of Goble Gotwals. Metcalfe joins GableGotwals after eight years as an Assistant Attorney General with the Oklahoma Office of Attorney General. Metcalfe Served as lead counsel for the state in numerous high-profile cases, including an original action before the United States Supreme Court pitting the State of Oklahoma against the State of Arkansas. Because of his vast civil appellate experience Greg was named the attorney general's civil appeals coordinator where he reviewed all the civil matters and advised the attorney general prior to the agency filing any civil appeals. Metcalfe most recently served as Director of the Attorney Gerneral's Patient Abuse and Medicaid Fraud Control Unit, where he supervised the investigation and prosecution of Medicaid provider fraud and the abuse, neglect, and financial exploitation of vulnerable patients in long-term care facilities throughout the state. Metcalfe graduated first in his class from Oklahoma City University School of Law in 2002, and earned his undergraduate degree in 1998 form Southern Nazarene University, graduating summa cum laude. GableGotwals is a full-service law firm representing a diversified client base across the nation. The firm's areas of expertise ranges from energy litigation and labor law to the rapidly evolving specialties of ADR, technology and intellectual property. Lydia Nightingale, M. D. ('99), obstetrics-gynecology specialist, has established her practice with OU Physicians. She completed her obstetrics-gynecology residency and earned her medical degree from University of Oklahoma College of Medicine. She is a member of American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology and the American Academy of Gynecologic Laparoscopy. Lydia is living in Oklahoma City.   (9/08)
