Alpha Epsilon Delta honor society chapter to be established at SNU
Southern Nazarene University will charter the Oklahoma Epsilon Chapter of the Alpha Epsilon Delta premedical honor society, Friday, October 12 at 6:30pm. The chartering ceremony will take place at the Oklahoma City First Church of the Nazarene located at 4400 Northwest Expressway.
This ceremony will establish the Oklahoma Epsilon Chapter, one of only five Epsilon chapters in the state of Oklahoma, and the 180th chapter of the national society. Charter members include 31 students, seven who are currently in medical school, and four faculty members.
“This prestigious honor brings national recognition to the SNU initiates and will greatly enhance the opportunities for students in our program,” said Dr. Nancy Halliday, Faculty Advisor for the Oklahoma Epsilon Chapter, and SNU professor.
Installing officers include national officers, Dr. Virgil Tweedie, National Councilior from Baylor University, and Dr. Manfred Reinecke, Region IV director from Texas Christian University, with Dr. John Nelson, Faculty Advisor for the Oklahoma Gamma Chapter at Oral Roberts University. Dr. Loren Gresham, president of Southern Nazarene University will bring greetings, which will be followed by a catered banquet, acceptance of the Charter, and remarks from guest speaker Dr. Francis Oakes, anesthesiologist at Deaconess Hospital in Oklahoma City.
Membership in Alpha Epsilon Delta is an honor bestowed in recognition of superior scholastic achievement and affords an enhanced opportunity for character development. Members are actively involved in numerous community-building activities and have increased opportunities to establish contacts with health professionals both at the local and national level. The variety of functions pursued by the Oklahoma Epsilon Chapter of Alpha Epsilon Delta will stimulate the intellectual and character development of its individual members while also engaging them in service to both the local community and the campus of Southern Nazarene University.
Alpha Epsilon Delta is the only national premedical honor society for students preparing for careers in medicine, dental medicine, osteopathic medicine, physician assistant, optometric medicine, podiatric medicine, veterinary medicine, nursing and other allied health professions. Alpha Epsilon Delta is a member of the Association of College Honor Societies and an affiliated society of the American Association for the Advancement of Science. There are over 135,000 members in 179 chapters at colleges and universities throughout the United States.
