Chesapeake Scholars at SNU

BETHANY, OK --The Chesapeake Energy Corporation of Oklahoma has invested $75,000 into scholarships for students attending Southern Nazarene University. The most recent gift of $50,000, added to a previous gift of $25,000, has provided scholarships for 20 SNU students.

“We believe that the 21st century will continue to be knowledge-driven,” said Carol Troy, director of corporate communications at Chesapeake Energy Corporation. “It’s a privilege to participate in the success stories that come from an educated workforce. Improving the quality of life in our operating areas is an important Chesapeake value.”

The criteria, for the Chesapeake Scholar selection process is multi-faceted. Each student must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.25, be classified as a junior or senior, have previously completed at least one semester at SNU, be a graduate of a U.S. high school or home-school, maintain enrollment in a minimum of 12 hours each semester, and have a major in one of the following areas of study: Accounting, Business Administration, Computer Science, Finance, Management, Management Information Systems, Marketing or Mathematics. Each student is also required to submit a resume and a one-page essay indicating why he or she should be considered as a worthy student for this scholarship.

Students named as Chesapeake scholars for the 2007/2008 academic year include; James Arlington (Finance major from El Reno, OK), Kyle Baldwin (Network Engineer major from Ponca City, OK), Aaron Cabe (Physics major from Tigard, OR), Lucas Dallen (Physics/Chemistry major from Bethany, OK), Andrea Kesterson (International Business major from Hot Springs, AR), Curtis McCully (Physics major from Woodland Park, CO), Kathleen McGlynn (Finance major from Bethany, OK), William Mercer (Business Administration major from Bethany, OK), Jeremy Mixon (Accounting major from Dodson, TX), Graham Morsch (Business Administration major from Bucyrus, KS), Natalie Rohlmeier (Accounting major from Yukon, OK), Kameron Rosenau (Finance major from Twin Falls, ID), Monica Stroman (Business Administration major from Bartlesville, OK), Brian Sweeney (Business Administration major from Graham, TX), and Jessica Tracy (Business Administration major from Corpus Christi, TX).

Students who received Chesapeake scholarships for the 2006/2007 academic year included; James Airington (Finance major from El Reno, OK), Angela Bryant (Nursing major from Bethany, OK), Rachel Janzen (Physical Education major from Oklahoma City, OK), Christopher Jones (Business Administration major from Edmond, OK), and Lisa Ledbetter (Math Education major from Chickasha, OK).
