Christmas comes to SNU through two upcoming Christmas concerts

This year SNU celebrates the Christmas season with two Christmas concerts in one week. The annual SNU Choral Society and Orchestra Christmas Concert will take place 6:00 pm, Sunday, December 2, at the Trinity Church of the Nazarene, 7301 S. Walker (just north of I-240) in Oklahoma City. The SNU School of Music Christmas concert fills out the week at 7:30 pm, Thursday, December 6, at Bethany First Nazarene Church, 6789 NW 39th Expressway, Bethany, OK.

“Listeners will be captivated by the variety of choral and orchestral sounds that they will hear. The full, lush orchestrations are guaranteed to put everyone into a festive, Christmas mood!” said Dr. D. Brent Ballweg, Professor of music and concert conductor.

This year’s 100 voice chorus and orchestra features musical selections “Gloria” from Messa di Gloria by Giacomo Puccini, and “The Many Moods of Christmas” arranged by Robert Shaw and Robert Russell Bennett. Included are four suites of arrangements of Christmas carols and hymns including, “Good Christian Men, Rejoice,” “Silent Night,” “O Come, All Ye Faithful,” “Joy to the World,” “Fum, Fum, Fum,” “What Child is This?” “Angels We Have Heard on High,” “The First Nowell,” “I Saw Three Ships,” and “Deck the Halls.” This event is open to the public. Admission is free.

The first annual SNU School of Music “Sounds of Christmas” concert on December 6 will showcase all SNU School of Music ensembles; Chorale, Jazz Band, University Singers, Percussion Ensemble, Men’s Chorus, Handbell Choir, Chamber Orchestra, Symphonic Band, Women’s Chorus, and Brass Choir. Directed by School of Music Chair Dr. Phil Moore, the concert features a variety of Christmas Carols. Dessert will be served at intermission.
