BETHANY, OK - This trip marked the 17th year for the “Commission Unto Mexico”. There were a total of 209 participants from 11 different states. From December 27, 2005 to January 3, 2006, this group worked together along with their new friends in Mexico, serving others. They built new roofs, laid foundations, painted, and repaired plumbing.
Once the group reached Mexico, they were divided up into nine different teams. The teams worked on 9 church construction sites and did community service projects that included painting a school and working on a public park. The teams held Vacation Bible School type ministries in all nine of the neighborhoods where the churches were located.
A mobile medical group of nurses and a doctor treated more than 230 Mexican patients in
clinic locations on five of the sites.
Faculty and staff members from SNU that participated in this year’s Mexico trip included
President Loren Gresham, Spiritual Development Director Dee Kelley, and Director of Admissions Larry Hess. Professors attending were Mary Hibbert (Nursing), Frank Johnson (Modern Languages), Marty Michelson (Old Testament), Cindy Powell (Business), and Howard Culbertson (Missions).
Among the many jobs that were on the agenda of work, more was accomplished in the hearts and minds of the team members that participated. They formed close bonds and they were able to interact with other fellow believers. New friendships were made that will carry on into later years.
Information on next year’s edition of “Commission Unto Mexico” will soon be posted at: www.snu.edu/mexico
