Dr. Fairbanks to speak at Commencement
Dr. E. LeBron Fairbanks, Church of the Nazarene Education Commissioner will be the speaker at the Southern Nazarene University (SNU) Spring Commencement 2008. Commencement ceremonies are held on the campus of SNU in the Sawyer Center on Saturday, May 17. Undergraduate College (Traditional students) ceremony begins at 10:00 a.m. and the College of Professional (formerly Adult Studies) and Graduate Studies Commencement time is 2:00 p.m.
Fairbanks was elected unanimously by the Nazarene General Board in February 2008 and assumed duties on March 1, of this year. He served as president of Mount Vernon Nazarene and Asia-Pacific Nazarene Theological Seminary in the Philippines. In addition, Fairbanks was the academic dean of European Nazarene College in Switzerland, professor of Christian Education and lay Ministry Development at SNU.
“Dr. LeBron Fairbanks is a consummate Christian higher educator. With administrative experience in European and Asian universities, as well as degrees from such American universities as Princeton University, he understands the current status of global education as well as anyone with whom I’m acquainted. It’s a privilege to welcome Dr. Fairbanks back to our campus where he was a professor two decades ago,” said Dr. Loren Gresham, President of Southern Nazarene University.
Fairbanks earned his undergraduate degree from Trevecca Nazarene University and received three master’s degrees. In 1976, he was designated a Fellow in Pastoral Leadership Education by Princeton Theological Seminary. He earned the D.Min. degree from Nazarene Theological Seminary in 1978. Fairbanks is a 1991 graduate of the Harvard University Institute of Educational management, and was a Research Fellow in 1999 at Yale University Divinity School while on sabbatical.
Fairbanks is an author and has written numerous books and articles, including the modular course of study book, Leading the People of God: Servant Leadership for a Servant Community. He has traveled to 34 countries worldwide and serves on a variety of community, state, national, and international boards.
