Dr. Jim Bond to speak at Spring Commencement
Dr. Jim L. Bond will serve as Commencement Speaker at the Southern Nazarene University (SNU) Spring Commencement ceremony, Saturday, May 12, 2001, 2:00 p.m. in the Sawyer Center.
Dr. Bond is a general superintendent in the Church of the Nazarene with offices in Kansas City, Missouri. He came to this office from presidency of Point Loma Nazarene College, a position he had held since 1983. Under Dr. Bond’s leadership, a Campus Master Plan was developed and several major construction projects on campus were completed. During his tenure, the college set enrollment records which represent a 33% overall increase, and there were growth and quality enhancements in key academic offerings. The stature of these programs enabled the school to gain national recognition in areas such as teacher education, nursing, and undergraduate preparation for medical school. An innovative program of spiritual development has involved almost two-thirds of the students in volunteer service and ministry.
He has served on several national and state higher education boards, including the Executive Committee of the Association of Independent California Colleges and Universities, the Coalition of Christian Colleges and Universities, and the American Association of Presidents of Independent Colleges and Universities.
Dr. Bond earned his B.A. degree from Pasadena College (now Point Loma Nazarene College), the Master of Divinity degree from Nazarene Theological Seminary, and the Doctor of Ministry from Fuller Theological Seminary. He is also the recipient of two honorary degrees, the doctor of divinity from Southern Nazarene University and the doctor of humane letters from Northern Arizona University.
