Dr. Loren Gresham receives unanimous vote of support

In accordance with the bylaws of Southern Nazarene University, during the Spring 2008 meeting of the Board of Trustees, a vote was due to be held regarding the re-election of the president of the university for a term of up to five additional years.

“Approximately 50 SNU Board Members vote for the University President,” said Dr. Tharon Daniels, Northwest Oklahoma District Superintendent, and Chairman of the Board of Trustees, “This past May, 2008, the Board of Trustees of Southern Nazarene University unanimously and enthusiastically voted to continue Dr. Loren Gresham’s term as President of Southern Nazarene University for the full five years.”

Gresham’s history of service to SNU began 41 years ago as professor of Political Science and History in 1967. For a number of years he also served as Head Coach of the men’s basketball team, leading them to the 1981 NAIA Championship. He later was named Provost of the University, and was subsequently elected President in 1989, where he continues today.

“When you think that over 600 Nazarene churches are within the South Central Region of the Church of the Nazarene, that gives you a picture of the great number of people who support and believe in the excellence of leadership that Dr. Loren Gresham provides as President of SNU,” said Dr. Terry Toler, Vice President for Church Relations for SNU.

Dr. Gresham earned an A.B. in History from Pasadena College, M.A. in International Relations from the University of Southern California, and a Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of Oklahoma. He and his wife, Linda, have one daughter, Suzanne Lynnette Strawn, who, with her husband, Dr. Brad Strawn, has two sons, Evan Bradley and Keaton Paul.

Founded in 1899, and through its primary relationship to the Church of the Nazarene, SNU educates students for responsible Christian living within the context of the liberal arts, selected professional and graduate studies, a Wesleyan-holiness theological perspective, and a cross-cultural community life.
