Dr. Richard Spindle to speak at Spring Commencement 2004
Dr. Richard Spindle will serve as Commencement Speaker at the Southern Nazarene University (SNU) Spring Commencement ceremony, Saturday, May 15, 2004, 2:00 p.m. in the Sawyer Center.
Dr. Richard Spindle is the third president of MidAmerica Nazarene University in Olathe, Kansas. Spindle came to the University in 1980 as Assistant Academic Dean, where he later served as Chair of the Division of Religion & Philosophy and as a professor of Christian education and religion.
Before coming to MidAmerica, Spindle was executive coordinator of the Division of Christian Life for the International Church of the Nazarene in Kansas City. Prior assignments include teaching at Nazarene Bible College in Colorado Springs and pastoring churches in Corpus Christi, Waco, and Dallas, Texas.
Dr. Spindle has contributed numerous articles to church publications and is the author of two books: They Never Stopped Teaching (1981) and A Breath of Fresh Air (1989). He has also been a contributing author for several books.
Spindle holds an A.B., B.Th., and M.A., all in Religion, from Southern Nazarene University, and a Master of Religious Education and Doctor of Education from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas.
Spindle has received the Gamma Epsilon Donald S. Metz Award for Teaching and the President's Award for Teaching from MidAmerica, the University Award from SNU, and the Olathe Chamber of Commerce Corporate Citizen of the Year Award. Spindle is a member of Phi Delta Lambda, the national honor society of colleges and universities of the Church of the Nazarene.
