Go for Baroque ensemble to perform at SNU’s 1st concert of the semester

SNU’s School of Music announces the first concert of the semester with Guest Artist Series Go for Baroque on Thursday, September 21, 2006. The performance will take place in the Cantrell Music Hall building at 7:30 p.m. on the campus of Southern Nazarene University, 6729 N.W. Expressway and College Ave., Bethany, Oklahoma.

“Get ready for an entertaining, heart-warming afternoon of traditional and unusual compositions brought to an audience as only Go For Baroque can,” said Peggy Payne, harpsichordist and manager of the ensemble.

The group is best known for flexibility and versatility. The ensemble’s main goal is to build connections between the arts, education and community development.

The concert will feature works by Pachelbel, Handel, Boismortier, Scarlatti, and J.S. Bach of the Baroque period. The evening will also include a variety of rags by Scott Joplin, Botsford, Bolling, Gould and Peter Schickele (P.D.Q. Bach), all from the 20th century. An ecletic combination of cleverly combined timbres of sound will feature rags for marimba, piccolo, trumpet, violin and solo piano, as well as the traditional ensemble of flute, violin, cello, trumpet and harpsichord.

Go for Baroque, well known for presenting serious music in an entertaining manner, will take the audience on a journey across the world presenting a whimsical look at music that will have your toes tapping and your hands clapping. Go for Baroque is listed on the Touring Program of the Oklahoma Arts Council and the regional Heartland Arts Fund Community Connections Roster.

The concert is a ticketed event with the following prices: Adults - $8.00; Senior adults - $6.00; Students - $2.00. All tickets are general admission and can be purchased through the SNU School of Music office.
