Invitational Choral Festival's 4th year at SNU

Southern Nazarene University’s Invitational Choral Festival will take place on Thursday, October 12, 2006 at 7:00 p.m. in Cantrell Music Hall, 6729 Northwest 39th Expressway in Bethany, Oklahoma.

This is the fourth year that SNU has held a Choral Music Festival in a non-competitive format. The purpose of the festival is to support and encourage choral singing in high schools and colleges in the state. The emphasis this year is on men’s choirs and SNU’s Men’s Chorus that host and welcome men’s choirs from Edmond North, Norman North, and Putnam City High Schools.

Dr. Brent Ballweg, Professor of Music and Conductor of the SNU Men’s Chorus states; “SNU is thrilled to welcome these singers from Edmond North, Norman North, and Putnam City High Schools. There’s nothing like the sound of a men’s chorus and trust me, you’ll be moved by the sound of our massed choir of 110 men!”

The guest clinician/conductor for the festival is Dr. Galen Darrough, Director of the Choral Activities from the University of Northern Colorado. Dr. Darrough has directed, adjudicated, and served as clinician to Ontario, and has conducted All-State Honor Choirs in Nebraska, North Dakota and Oklahoma. His broad experience in choral music includes public school teaching at junior and senior high school, community college, university, and community levels. His UNC Men’s Glee Club was selected to perform for the 1996 and 2006 Southwestern Division conventions of the American Choral Directors Association, and for the 1997 Colorado Music Educators Convention.

During the afternoon of the festival, Dr. Darrough will clinic with the visiting men’s choirs, listening to them and offering positive advice. The festival will conclude with a Festival Concert. Individual performances by the SNU Men’s Chorus and each men’s choir from Edmond North, Norman North, and Putnam City will be followed by all choirs combining to form a massed men’s choir of 110 singers conducted by Dr. Darrough. The public is cordially invited to attend the concert (no admission charge).
