Jazz Today, Jazz Tomorrow, Jazz Everyday
The SNU jazz band presents “Coffee Shop Jazz,” Thursday, March 7, starting at 7:30 pm with a big band style concert in Cantrell Music Hall. Then, at approximately 8:15 pm, the jazz band will move to the newly re-opened Java Joint Coffee Shop for small group and combo style jazz, plus a 10% discount on drinks to students and faculty during the concert.
The big band concert will feature the entire jazz band and guest soloist Marti Callies with jazz standards “I Could Write a Book” and “Fly Me to the Moon.” The combo style pieces to be played at the Java Joint include “Summertime,” “Autumn Leaves,” “All Blues,” and many more.
“This concert offers a unique opportunity to hear the jazz bands’ large group and combo style. It is truly a different type of concert with the entire audience moving locations half way through,” said Tim Wall, jazz band director.
Admission is free. For more information, contact the School of Music at 405.491.6345.
