John Martin named Outstanding Fundraiser
BETHANY, Oklahoma – The Oklahoma Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) has selected John Martin, Executive Director of Development for Southern Nazarene University (SNU), as the 2007 Mike McDonald Outstanding Professional Fundraiser.
"Being selected to receive The Mike McDonald Outstanding Professional Fundraiser award is an amazing honor. I knew Mike, and his professionalism and integrity were paramount throughout his career. Being nominated now, and selected by my peers in central Oklahoma for this award, is humbling. It is truly a highlight of my development career,” said Martin.
Martin’s 17 years of work in Planned Giving and Development include having served as a contributing team member and assistant campaign manager for two comprehensive campaigns; a $32.6 million campaign for Southern Nazarene University, completed in September, 2006 and a $16 million campaign at LeTourneau University, completed in 1999. Martin has assisted donors and served as primary relationship manager with some who have established planned gifts totaling more than $13 million, including a complex and ongoing charitable remainder trust funded with more than 100 separate properties. In addition to other supervisory responsibilities in donor relations, annual giving and advancement services, Martin also teaches a college level Fundraising course, and is currently working on a professional certification for Chartered Advisor in Philanthropy. Martin has served as Executive Director of Development for SNU since 1999.
In addition to his work at SNU, Martin’s community service is extensive including serving as treasurer and past president of the AFP Oklahoma Chapter, president of Kiwanis Club of Oklahoma City, and former chair of the Northwest Chamber of Commerce.
For more than 25 years, AFP has recognized the most notable community members and philanthropists for their outstanding efforts. Martin will be presented with the “Mike McDonald Outstanding Fundraiser” award at the National Philanthropy Day Celebrating 100 Years of Giving in Oklahoma conference luncheon on Friday, October 19, 2007, at the Hilton Skirvin Hotel in downtown Oklahoma City.
