Congratulations are in order for Judy Mills, SNU class of 1970 and wife of Southern Nazarene University’s Dr. Larry Mills, SNU class of 1966, PH.D, C.M.A., Professor, School of Business, and former Chair of the SNU School of Business.

Judy has been selected as the 2005 State Farm Volunteer of the Year for the Central Zone. She is a retired agent for State Farm Insurance Company and has always embraced the importance of community involvement

Last year, Mrs. Mills volunteered approximately 1,200 hours with her volunteer efforts that focused primarily on the Prison Fellowship Ministry Angel Tree®. She has been volunteering for this organization for 14 years. She has recently retired from State Farm, which allows her more time to volunteer with the Angel Tree ministries.

“I appreciate so very much State Farm recognizing the significance of the children of inmates. And, among my strongest partner in the work have been the SNU college students who continue to have a tremendous impact on the lives of these kids. The interest they’ve taken in them is amazing and thrills my heart!” said Judy Mills.

Other areas that Judy volunteered in include: Assisting teens in the job application and interview process, organizing and co-directing Esteem University (a one week camp for teen girls), Thanksgiving feasts, Christmas and Birthday parties and Back to School shopping trips.

In honor of Mrs. Mills’s commitment to volunteerism in 2005, State Farm contributed a $500.00 grant to Southern Nazarene University Angel Tree Ministry on her behalf. State Farm chose Mills from the Central Zone, a five state region. She was chosen from over 4,000 others for the Volunteer of the Year award.
