Larikah Russell Named Marvin P. Richmond Outstanding Player at NAIA National Tournament
(MOBILE,AL)---SNU women’s tennis star, Larikah Russell, was named the Marvin P. Richmond Outstanding Player for the 2004 NAIA National Tournament on Friday. Russell helped lead SNU’s Cinderella run to the NAIA National Semifinals, never losing at Nationals. Russell finished up the 2004 season with a 23-1 record at #1 singles.
Russell and freshman Nikkita Fountain also earned NAIA First Team All-American honors this season it was announced on Friday. Russell and Fountain went 25-1 at #1 doubles and also did not surrender a loss at Nationals. This marks Larikah Russell’s second consecutive NAIA First Team All-American honor, she earned the other last year as a freshman.
Senior’s Becky Ciccone and Jana Maker also earned NAIA Academic All-American honors for the second consecutive year. Ciccone is a senior from York, Nebraska and Maker is a senior from Sterling, Colorado.
The Crimson Storm finished the 2004 season with a 15-12 mark and made their first ever appearance in the NAIA National Semifinals in three appearances under Head Coach Phil White.
