Men's Golf Finishes 10th at Nationals

(OLATHE,KS)---The Crimson Storm men’s golf team finished 10th at the NAIA National Tournament after the completion of 72 holes of play on Friday in Olathe, Kansas. The Crimson Storm shot a final team tournament score of 1219 to claim sole possession of 10th place.

SNU’s Gerod Black earned All-Tournament honors for his outstanding play at the tournament. Black finished 14th overall individually with a final total of 296. Black’s low round was a 71 on the first day of the tournament. Black was also named an NAIA Honorable Mention All-American for his outstanding play.

Jody Taylor claimed 32nd for the Crimson Storm with a final score of 304. Taylor’s low round of the tournament was a 73 on day three of Nationals. Taylor was also named an NAIA Honorable Mention All-American for his outstanding performance.

The Crimson Storm found themselves in 4th place after the first day of the tournament after an outstanding start to the Championship. SNU shot a team score of 296 on day one in Olathe. Unfortunately, the Crimson Storm would slip to fifth after the second round and then to tenth after the third day of play. SNU maintained their 10th place standing on the final day by defeating Cal State Monterey Bay by three strokes.

Steve Hulsey’s squad finished the 2004 season with another Top Ten finish for the highly successful men’s golf program. Hulsey has built the Crimson Storm program into a consistent national contender during his tenure at Southern Nazarene University. SNU will say good-bye to graduating senior Gerod Black, Brent LaVigne and Justin Pusey.

Black earned his second consecutive NAIA Honorable Mention selection this season after two great years in Bethany. Brent LaVigne was an Honorable Mention All-American as a freshman at SNU and earned NAIA Academic All-American honors this season as a senior. Justin Pusey was also honored as an NAIA Academic All-American this season for the Crimson Storm.
