Southern Nazarene University will welcome incoming freshmen and transfer students to the Fall 2006 New Student Institute (NSI) on Saturday, August 19 - 23, 2006
. Residence Halls will open at 8:00 a.m. Saturday morning for new freshman and transferring students.
NSI is a required course for which the student will receive one hour of credit. The five days of orientation includes four weekly family group fellowship meetings held on Thursdays at 10:50 a.m. Each student is assigned to a 13-week “Orienting to College”
(OTC) class held on Mondays at 10:00 a.m.
Family groups have 10-15 new students and are led by a faculty mentor and student mentors. Students will meet their family group fellow mentors at the “President’s
Welcome” on Saturday evening, August 19, 2006 at 7:30 p.m.
A service project day is a special focus of orientation set during NSI so that when a student first becomes part of the SNU campus, that student can see that he or she is a part of who we are at SNU. This year the service project day is Tuesday, August 22, 2006. Service projects in the past have included serving the needs of local outreaches such as The Children’s Center, Feed the Children, Goodwill, Habitat for Humanity, LoveLinks, OKC Compassion, Public Parks, Reaching our City, Ronald McDonald House, Salvation Army and Urban Impact.
Other scheduled activities during NSI will include: Seminars, Campus Orientation and Tour, Academic Advising, and Chapel Service.
SNU will offer returning students two days for final registration: Wednesday, August 23, and Thursday, August 24, 2006. Undergraduate classes for the Fall 2006 semester are set to begin Thursday, August 24.
