Novak and Shields to speak at SNU
Robert Novak and Mark Shields team up to bring their political insight to the third Peer Learning Network (PLN) session of the year on Thursday, February 14 in the Royce Brown Business Building located at NW 39th Expressway and Peniel on the campus of Southern Nazarene University (SNU). The session begins at 8:00 a.m. and will last until 11:30 a.m. Reservations are necessary. Cost is $40.00 per ticket.
Novak brings his experienced perspective as the columnist for one of the longest-running syndicated columns in the nation, Inside Report. Shields’ expertise is that of a nationally known columnist and commentator as an analyst of the U.S. Political system, best known for his work as moderator on CNN’s Capital Gang, where both Novak and Shields have debated policy issues. Together they will address primaries, the general election, the candidates and key election issues.
Robert Novak has covered national politics and has also traveled abroad to report wars, revolutions, and international conferences around the globe. The insights he brings come from covering great events and interviewing world leaders from every part of the world. He produces a twice-monthly newsletter, the Evans-Novak Political Report. He has written for most of the nation’s periodicals and is currently a contributing editor for Readers Digest. He has published and / or collaborated in publication of six books, including his latest book of memoirs, Prince of Darkness: 50 Years of Reporting in Washington (July 2007).
Novak was a commentator for Cable News Network
(CNN), where he was former host of The Novak Zone program. He is also former co-executive producer of CNN’s
political roundtable Capital Gang; and former regular
co-host on Crossfire. Novak appears occasionally on NBC’s
Meet the Press. He was a Radford Visiting Professor of Journalism at Baylor University in 1987 and is the 2001
winner of the National Press Club’s Fourth Estate Award for Lifetime Achievement in Journalism.
From 1993 to the Fall of 2001, the analysis team of Mark Shields and Wall Street Journal columnist Paul Gigot has been on the NewsHour with Jim Lehrer on PBS, seen every Friday and during primaries, national conventions and elections. Shields now shares that feature with David Brooks, senior editor of The Weekly Standard. Shields is also an author, whose book about the 1984 presidential campaign, On the Campaign Trail, has been praised as
“funny,” “irreverent,” and “insightful” and for bringing that “race to a magnificent light.”
Before entering journalism, Shields helped manage political
campaigns from the courthouse to the White House, in some 38 states. In addition, he has taught American politics and the press at Harvard University and the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania.
Together, Novak and Shields will bring enlightenment from all sides of the Washington, D.C. political fences as they present policy issues that affect us all.
