Prof. Carrillo Accompanies David Howard at Guest Recital
Southern Nazarene University Professor Manuel Carrillo will accompany special guest baritone David Howard, 7:30 pm, Thursday, March 14 in Cantrell Music Hall.
Howard’s selections include “Dichterliebe, Opus 48” by Robert Schumann, two Richard Strauss songs, “Songs of Travel” by Ralph Vaughan Williams, and “Let Us Garlands Bring, Opus 18” by Gerald Finzi. “I invited Mr. Howard to sing a vocal recital to enrich the knowledge and culture of our music students and SNU community of Classical art song being performed live, and to inspire SNU music students and anyone interested in performing more research into composers, poets and stylistic characteristics of each period of music,” said Carrillo.
A native of Oklahoma City, David Howard is conductor and artistic director of the Midwest Choral Society, director of choral music and music theory instructor at Choctaw High School, and Minister of Music at Howard Memorial Baptist Church. He holds a Bachelor of Music Education degree and a Master of Music degree in vocal performance, with honors from the University of Central Oklahoma. He currently serves as vice-president of the East Central Oklahoma Choral Director’s Association.
Manuel Carrillo, from Los Angeles, California, holds a bachelor’s and two masters degreed in piano performance. He teaches applied piano, music history and class piano at the University of Central Oklahoma, and also teaches applied piano and Aural Theory at Southern Nazarene University. Carrillo currently serves as the Vice-President of the Oklahoma City Pianist’s Club and holds the Artist Diploma from the American College of Musicians.
