Prof. Does a Du
Instructor Les Dart competed in the Frost Yer Fanny Duathlon on February 2. The race was held at Lake Joe Pool in Grand Prairie, Texas.
A duathlon requires the participant to compete in both cycling and running. The race totaled six running miles and 20.6 cycling miles (2 mi. run/10.3 mi. bike/2 mi. run/10.3 mi. bike/2 mi. run). Dart completed the event in 2:12:57, the ninety-fifth finisher and tenth in his category (Men 25-29).
Despite the event's title, no fannies were frosted. Temperatures breached seventy degrees. Although temperatures were comfortable for the race, the 204 competitors had to combat a fierce wind.
Dart teaches courses in the Speech Communication Department and the Mass Communication/Journalism program. This was his first duathlon, but he has competed in several triathlon events in which the sport of swimming is combined with cycling and running. Dart plans to compete in more multisport events throughout the semester.
