BETHANY, OK - Robert Hale, one of the most esteemed heroic bass baritones of this decade, will perform in a benefit concert for Southern Nazarene University School of Music, 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, November 12, 2005 at Bethany First Church of the Nazarene.
“The SNU School of Music is proud to feature this distinguished alumnus in concert for our community. Robert Hale’s significant vocal prowess will be showcased in a variety of operatic, popular, and sacred selections. The concert will be an unsurpassed celebration of music for the Central Oklahoma area,” said Dr. Phil Moore, Chair of the SNU School of Music.
In April 2005, Hale was awarded the Golden Mask National Theater Award of Russia as Best Singer of 2003-2004 for his portrayal of the title role “Der Flingende Hollaender”
(The Flying Dutchman by Richard Wagner). This award is considered one of the most prestigious performing arts award in Russia. In addition to his opera appearances, Hale performs both as recitalist and soloist with leading orchestras. He has appeared with the orchestras of Boston, Philadelphia, Cleveland, Chicago, San Francisco, New York, Washington D.C., Toronto, and Montreal. In Europe he has sung concerts with the Berliner Philharmonic, Musikvereinssaal in Vienna, in the Royal Albert Hall and the Barbican Centre in London and the Amsterdam Concertgebouw.
As an alumnus of the SNU School of Music, Hale has a keen interest in the continued development and expansion of the educational opportunities offered through the School.
Generously, Hale has arranged so that all proceeds from this concert go toward endowed scholarships for current and future School of Music students.
Robert Hale will be joined by conductor and pianist Ovid Young, a 50-piece orchestra and a 150 –voice combined SNU School of Music and Alumni Choir. This showcase concert is a part of the 2005 Homecoming weekend for Southern Nazarene University.
