The Southern Nazarene University Intercollegiate Management Gaming Team finished runner-up in the fortieth annual International Collegiate Business Simulation Competition, hosted by the University of San Diego (CA).
This marked the tenth time in thirteen years that SNU either finished runner-up or won a national title, winning in 1992 at the University of Nevada-Reno, in 1994 at the University of Nevada-Las Vegas, in 1995, 1996 and 1997 at San Jose State University, and the 2000 and 2003 titles at the University of San Diego.
The SNU team joined teams from 24 universities from across the United States, Canada, and the United Arab Emerius in the competition recently completed. Top business students from the likes of San Diego State University, University of Portland, Dubai Woman’s College (UAE), Freed Hardeman (TN), San Jose State University, Southern Illinois University, Arcadia University (PA), California State University-Sacramento, California Polytechnic State University, Bryant College (RI), and University of California-Fresno matched their collective management talent in head-to-head competition.
Teams began competing on the “net” from their home campuses on February 3, 2004. Each decision, which represents a business quarter, requires the team members to address in detail the full range of corporate growth, productivity, credit norms, market analysis, new product development, plant openings, production line scheduling, compensation policies, advertising, pricing and sales strategies, asset management, finance management, multinational strategy, and strategic planning. In addition to 20 quarterly decisions, each team must complete a comprehensive business plan, an annual report, and a series of management reports and make a presentation to a panel of corporate executives who play the role of judge.
The SNU team finished runner-up to Freed Hardeman (TN). The trophy was awarded Saturday evening, April 18 at the Bahia Resort Hotel in San Diego, CA. Members of this year’s team were as follows: President/CEO – Brent LaVigne, Senior Business Administration major, Naperville, IL; Vice President Finance – Darko Naumoski, Junior Accounting major, Macedonia;
