SNU Ranked 20th in United States Sports Academy Director’s Cup Standings After Winter Season
(BETHANY,OK)---The 2003-2004 athletic season has already been a strong one for Southern Nazarene University athletics. After the winter season, the Crimson Storm Athletic Department is ranked 20th in the United States Sports Academy Athletic Director’s Cup Standings with the spring season remaining.
The United States Sports Academy Directors' Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. The United States Sports Academy, based in Daphne, Alabama, is in its first year sponsoring the program. Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in up to 12 sports - six women's and six men's. Each national champion receives 100 points.
SNU was 65th after the fall season but received boosts from the National Championship won by the Crimson Storm women’s basketball program and the National Title won by the men’s 4X800 meter relay team in men’s indoor track and field. SNU’s men’s track squad finished 5th in the National Championships, the highest finish in school history.
Heading into the final leg of the spring season, SNU currently has National Title contenders in men’s and women’s golf, women’s tennis and men’s outdoor track and field. Women’s Golf is currently ranked 2nd in the nation, Women’s Tennis is 11th, Men’s Golf is 12th and the Men’s Track squad has several individuals who have qualified for Nationals.
The final standings will be released at the conclusion of the NAIA spring post-seasons.
