SNU at NYC 2007
Southern Nazarene University (SNU) attended the recent Nazarene Youth Conference (NYC), which takes place every four years within the Nazarene Denomination. This year NYC took place from July 10-15 in St. Louis at the America’s Center.
The event titled “Water, Fire, Wind” for Nazarene high school students brought nearly 10,000 youth, youth workers, sponsors and volunteers together for six days of worship, transformation and aimed at discovering God’s plan for their lives.
Nazarene Universities across the states set up booths for the attendees to visit. SNU’s booth was referred to as the “SNU VIP booth” where SNU gave away SNU VIP sunglasses that were worn by thousands and were even seen being worn by members of the rock group “Family Force 5” who performed at NYC.
Stephen Vandervort, SNU student representative that worked the SNU booth said “SNU revolutionized the way college booths were run by being an event within itself, having a schedule of events. Hundreds of students participated in the VIP booth’s ‘Red Party’ that featured DJ Puppykisses and games such as the Electric Slide, Macarena, Hula Hoop contests, and the Train. Guitar Hero and Dance Dance Revolution championships were held all week long on the 9 ft X 12 ft. screen.”
SNU brought the exact laptops that are given to incoming freshmen and displayed them at the booth. Hundreds of pictures were taken with the laptop’s program called Photo Booth
. The SNU VIP booth has its own MySpace, at www.myspace.com/snuvip. Students could sign up to be SNU VIP’s friend and leave comments for SNU and the booth on the myspace.
More than any material object, incredible relationships were formed between staff and students.
