SNU offers summer Opera/Operetta/Recital workshop

This summer Southern Nazarene University (SNU) is offering a summer Opera/Operetta/Recital workshop for ages 13 through College. The 3-week workshop will take place on the campus of Southern Nazarene University July 21 through August 9. Classes will be held on Mondays through Fridays from 9:30 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. Students will need to provide their own bag lunch.

Included in the workshop are rudimentary music theory classes, music history classes and stage make-up classes, taught by SNU Music Education Majors and workshop faculty.

The workshop includes private and group voice lessons with Professor Rebekah Ambrosini, production staging and stagecraft classes with Professor Susan Adams Johnson and vocal coaching offered with Professor Tim Marek.

We will present a staged and costumed performance of one opera and one operetta and every student in the workshop will be cast in one of these shows. As well as participating in the main stage production, every singer will perform in recital in an ensemble, duet or solo as part of the final performance, which will take place Saturday August 9th in Cantrell Recital Hall.

“I will gear these solo selections toward classical and music theater repertoire appropriate for competition and/or college auditions,” said Rebekah Ambrosini, Assistant Professor of Voice at SNU.

The fee will be $450 for the 3-week program. If this fee is a burden for you there is the possibility of work/study where a parent or student can offer services as costumer or set builder for a greatly discounted workshop fee.
