School of Music presents Godspell
The Southern Nazarene University (SNU) School of Music is pleased to present the musical Godspell, 7:30 pm, Thursday through Saturday, April 22-24, and 2:00 pm Sunday, April 25, in Herrick Auditorium, NW 39th Expressway and Asbury.
Based on the Gospel According to St. Matthew, Godspell is one of the biggest off-Broadway and Broadway successes of all time. The parables of Christ come to life on stage as the cast delivers God’s timeless message of hope and love. Featuring a sparkling score by Stephen Schwartz, Godspell boasts a string of recognizable songs, led by the international hit, “Day By Day.”
The musical features a full orchestra and select cast under the direction of Philip Miller, SNU Professor of Music.
“I am excited to present this show to our audience,” said Miller. “We have worked hard to deliver an entertaining performance while upholding and highlighting the various meanings found throughout Godspell. The talent in the cast is some of the best ever assembled for a show at SNU. I am confident that the audience will walk away from Godspell with a new appreciation and perspective on the life of Christ.”
The role of Jesus will be played by Cary Mock. Mock is a professional actor with extensive experience. He brings great talent to the stage and approaches the role with warmth and tenderness.
“You will laugh and tap your foot to the high energy songs and be moved at Jesus’ love for those around him. Bring your entire family for a great evening of uplifting entertainment,” said Miller.
Tickets are $15 for reserved seating; $10 general admission for adults; $8 for senior adults, faculty and students; and $4 for SNU students with ID.
