Second Provost in history of the school hired at Southern Nazarene University

Southern Nazarene University announces the appointment of Dr. Patrick Allen as the University’s new Provost.

“His [Allen’s] passion for the mission of a Christian university will help us all to rethink our possibilities and potentialities,” said SNU President Loren Gresham. “I have every confidence that our campus community will receive Patrick and Lori into our university family warmly and enthusiastically.”

Allen will serve as coordinator of campus functions for academic affairs, student development, spiritual development, human resources, strategic planning and athletics departments. He will also work closely with members of the administration in the prioritizing of resource allocation for the University.

Allen earned his bachelor’s degree from Olivet Nazarene University, a master’s from Southern Methodist University, an MSM from SNU and a Ph.D. from the University of Oklahoma. He has held faculty and administrative positions at Friends, Anderson and most recently Point Loma Nazarene, universities. He comes to SNU with a wealth of experience in Christian higher education administration.

“I came here because I really wanted to work with Loren [Gresham, President]. I have known and admired him for a long time. I’ve also admired SNU for the way they nurtured me years ago as a brash young kid and I’ve always wanted to give something back. This is the right place and the right time,” said Allen.

Allen is not a stranger to SNU as he served as the Director of the Title III program from 1978 to 1983. He served as Provost for Point Loma Nazarene University for ten years prior to coming to SNU.
