Spring Commencement 2004
Southern Nazarene University will conduct its Spring 2004 Commencement exercises Saturday, May 15, 2004, 2:00 p.m. in the Sawyer Center.
Several activities are scheduled for graduating seniors during commencement weekend. Commencement festivities begin with the Senior Celebration, a celebratory dinner for SNU seniors and their immediate families, on Friday, May 14, 7:00-8:30 p.m. in the SNU Sawyer Center. On Saturday, May 15, Phi Delta Lambda will host a breakfast at 8:00 a.m. in the Heritage Room of the SNU Webster Commons. The Capping and Pinning Ceremony for SNU Nursing graduates will take place Saturday, May 15 at 10:00 a.m. in the Bethany First Nazarene Church Atrium.
On May 15, commencement exercises will begin at 2:00 p.m., and the doors in the Sawyer Center will open for guests at 1:00 p.m. Dr. Richard Spindle, President of MidAmerica Nazarene University in Olathe, Kansas, will serve as commencement speaker. Rev. Harold Graves, Northeast Oklahoma District Superintendent for the Church of the Nazarene, will be presented with an honorary doctorate during the ceremony, and Rev. David Felter, General Editor for the Church of the Nazarene and Editor-in-Chief of Holiness Today (the official periodical of the Church of the Nazarene), will receive an Honorary Doctor of Divinity.
“Commencement is a highlight of the academic year for graduates, families, and SNU faculty and administration. It marks a high point of achievement for men and women we believe are better equipped to make a real, positive difference in the world,” said Dr. Don Dunnington, Vice President for Academic Affairs.
Following commencement exercises, the historic Ivy Ring Ceremony for graduates will take place at the Centennial Plaza in front of the Webster Commons. Families are encouraged to follow the graduates in their recessional out to the Centennial Plaza and stand behind their graduates as a part of the Ivy Ring Ceremony.
Commencement is open to the public, and there is no admission charge. Guests are asked to enter through the west doors of the Sawyer Center.
