MCJL partners with Church Relations
Twenty-seven pastors and laiety from Nazarene churches throughout the region met at SNU for a video production workshop in January.
The workshop was sponsored by the Office of Church Relations and instructed by Les Dart, a third-year instructor in the Mass Comm/Journalism program. The workshop was taught in a computer lab provided by the Education Dept.
Participants were taught strategies for creatively incorporating video projects in church activities to enhance their church communities. Available technology, project organization, composition, scripting, and delivery methods were discussed, as well as a viewing of sample projects produced by the instructor.
The participants then had a chance to edit together a sample church promotional video using iMovie video editing software, giving them a chance to learn the techniques of basic video editing. The group had a chance to mingle, swap ideas and devour Krispy Kreme donuts.
"I really think classes like this being offered to the churches is a fantastic idea," said Aaron Kimbrough from Broken Arrow Church of the Nazarene. The video workshop is the second technology workshop offered by the Office of Church Relations and taught by Dart. A workshop discussing Powerpoint began the technology series last Fall. New, advanced workshops will be offered in the future to SNU friends and popular workshops will be repeated.
