Wheat Bowl IX: SNU vs. MNU

The Crimson Storm football team of Southern Nazarene University will kick off the 2003 season as they come head to head with the Mid-America Pioneers in the ninth annual Wheat Bowl Classic on Saturday, August 30, 7:30 p.m., in Ellinwood, Kansas (approximately 100 miles west of Wichita, KS).

Game tickets are $10.00 for adults, $5.00 for children ages 6 thru 12, and free for children 6 and under. Tickets can be purchased through the Southern Nazarene University Athletic Department by calling 405.491.6339. The Wheat Bowl IX marks the first meeting of the two institutions on the gridiron. To celebrate this history-making event, the two schools have planned a variety of weekend activities in the Ellinwood area for the enjoyment of visiting fans:

SNU alumnus, Doug Eaton has organized Bikers to Ellinwood with a route for those coming from the South (Oklahoma City) and from the Northeast (Kansas City). The Oklahoma Freedom Bikers and other interested participants will leave SNU’s Sawyer Center parking lot on Saturday morning, August 30, at 7:30 am. The biker group will take a scenic ride north to Newton, Kansas where they will meet the MNU riders at the Days Inn and ride on to Ellinwood together. Following the game, the biker group will travel back to Newton to stay the night at Days Inn. On Sunday morning, August 31, the group will attend the first Biker Sunday of Woodland Lakes Community Church in east Wichita, Kansas, with service beginning at 10:50 a.m. The SNU biker group will depart for home after lunch, concluding the 2-day, 500 mile run. SNU and MNU will host a joint Tailgate Cookout in Ellinwood City Park on Saturday, August 30 at 5 pm. All students, friends, and alumni from each of the sister schools are encouraged to attend. Tickets are $5 per person and can be purchased online at www.snu.edu/wheat_bowl or by calling 1.800.648.9899. Food will be provided by Jim’s Café.

The Great Bend Church of the Nazarene has invited all friends and alumni from SNU and MNU to attend a complimentary brunch on Sunday, August 31 at 9:30 am, 4811 Broadway, Great Bend, Kansas, 67530.
