Winter Commencement 2003
Southern Nazarene University (SNU) will honor the graduating class of 2003 during Winter Commencement on Saturday, December 13, at 2:00 p.m. in the Sawyer Center, NW 39th Expressway & Donald.
Commencement exercises will begin at 2:00 p.m. in the Sawyer Center, with doors open for guest seating at 1:00 p.m. Three selected SNU graduates will deliver Collegiate Reflections as a part of the commencement address: Bud Perryman (SNU Tulsa Center, Organizational Leadership Group 48); Gloria Muhammad (Main SNU Campus, Family Studies and Gerontology Group 37); and Melanie Swanigan (Traditional SNU Senior, Elementary Education).
“Rather than having the usual commencement speaker format, we are trying something a little different. We have invited three students from the graduating class to represent their peers, and share briefly reflections of their learning journey while here at SNU,” said Dr. Martha Banz, Dean of Arts and Sciences.
Students from SNU’s Adult & Graduate Studies programs (both in Tulsa and Bethany) will make up the largest percentage of students graduating this December, balanced by a smaller group of graduates from SNU’s traditional residential on-campus programs.
“We are so pleased to be honoring over 360 graduates during commencement activities this December,” said Banz. “These students have worked diligently to complete their degree requirements, and have reached a significant milestone in their educational journey. We congratulate them for their accomplishment.”
Commencement is free and open to the public. Guests are asked to enter through the west doors of the Sawyer Center. For additional information about commencement, contact the SNU Office of Academic Affairs at (405) 491-6304.
