(MOBILE,AL)---The Crimson Storm women’s tennis team continued their post-season roll on Wednesday morning, upsetting 3rd-seeded Flagler, Florida, 5-4, to advance to the NAIA National Semifinals on Thursday.
SNU won two of the three doubles matches as the #1 doubles team of Larikah Russell and Nikkita Fountain improved to 22-1 on the year with an 8-1 win. SNU’s #2 duo of Caroline Magambo and Jana Maker then followed with an 8-6 victory.
In singles, SNU’s Larikah Russell improved to 22-1 on the year with a come-from-behind three set win 3-6, 6-3, 6-3 at #1 singles. Nikkita Fountain then followed with a 7-6, 6-3 win at #2 singles and Caroline Magambo clinched the match winner with a come-from-behind 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 win at #3 singles.
SNU improves to 15-11 on the season and will take on 7th-seeded Azusa Pacific, California on Thursday morning at 9:00 a.m. in one of the NAIA National Semifinals. Azusa upset 2nd-seeded Northwood, Florida on Wednesday, 5-1.
The Crimson Storm continues their story book run in Nationals. In two previous National Tourney appearances, SNU has advanced to the second round of the tournament but never beyond until this week. SNU is vying for the first NAIA National Title in women’s tennis in school history.
