World-Renowned Robert Hale to Perform at SNU
BETHANY, OK – World-renowned operatic bass-baritone Robert Hale will perform at Southern Nazarene University on Tuesday, October 9, at 7:30 PM in Cantrell Music Hall located on the campus of SNU, just north of NW 39th and College. His program will be followed by an open Master Class, where Mr. Hale will be working with four outstanding vocal students from SNU. The concert is free and open to the public.
An SNU alumnus, Hale is considered one of the foremost heroic bass-baritones in the world, specializing in the operas of Richard Wagner. His keen interest in the development of young singers will be evident throughout the week as he works with SNU students in the studio, lecture hall, and classroom.
In 2005, Hale was awarded the Golden Mask National Theater Award of Russia as Best Singer of 2003-2004 for his portrayal of the title role in “Der Flingende Hollaender” (The Flying Dutchman) by Wagner. This award is considered one of the most prestigious performing arts awards in Russia.
Hale was born in Louisiana, studied at SNU and OU, and pursued professional musical studies at Boston University and New England Conservatory of Music. He began his career as a recitalist appearing in concert halls across the country, later making his debut with the New York City Opera. He has appeared in the major opera houses of the world including the Vienna State Opera, London's Covent Garden, La Scala, Milano, Paris Opera, Munich State Opera, Deutsche Opera Berlin, and Hamburg State Opera.
