Alternative Master in Nursing

Alternative Master in Nursing for Non-nursing B.S. Majors

If you are licensed as a registered nurse and have a baccalaureate degree in a field other than nursing, the School of Nursing at Southern Nazarene University is offering you the opportunity to earn your Master of Science in Nursing in 19 months, without having to first obtain a BSN.

The SNU School of Nursing offers two Master of Science degree tracks: MS in Nursing Education and MS in Nursing Leadership Program, which are designed for working registered nurses who have completed a bachelor’s degree from a nationally accredited program. Classes are completed in a year-round modularized format, meeting 4 hours for 1 day a week. Individual courses last 6 weeks.

Prerequisites for the Accelerated Master of Nursing Degree:

  • Bachelor’s degree from a nationally accredited college or university.
  • 3.0 GPA in undergraduate courses, or permission of the program director.
  • Active, registered nurse’s license in the state where employed in nursing
  • Basic statistics course and evidence of basic computer literacy
  • Meeting with graduate nursing coordinator to develop individualized plans for completing entrance requirements through a portfolio process

The graduate nursing program at SNU is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education. Students who complete the M.S. in Nursing may return and complete the four specialty courses for the alternate track. Upon completion of the four courses, the student will receive a certificate for the second track. Scholarships are available.
