The Southern Nazarene University Athletic Training Education Program (ATEP) in no longer accepting new students. Southern Nazarene University ATEP is accredited by the Athletic Training at Southern Nazarene University, Bethany OklahomaCommission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE). The program has been placed on Probation as of February 19, 2016 by the CAATE, 6850 Austin Center Blvd., Suite 100, Austin, TX 78731-3101, and is currently executing a teach out of its current students. Students interested in pursuing a career in Athletic Training are encouraged to explore the Pre-Athletic Training degree at SNU.

The SNU ATEP is currently non-compliant by CAATE as it undergoes changes to continually strive for excellence from the students. Changes to the program include a revision of courses offered to enhance critical thinking by engaging students in Athletic Training specific scenarios. The program is also undergoing a change to the clinical curriculum to enhance students’ experience. Through these concentrated efforts, the Athletic Training Education program is striving to increase the first time pass rate.

Pre-Athletic Training


Graduates from the SNU Pre-Athletic Training Program are prepared and eligible to attend graduate school in the pursuit of a Master’s in Athletic Training. Curriculum content focuses around:

  • Anatomy and Physiology
  • Physics
  • Biology
  • Chemistry
  • First Aid/CPR
  • Orthopedic Evaluation
  • Nutrition
  • Exercise Physiology
  • Biomechanics


Upon completing a Masters degree in Athletic Training, graduates would find opportunities as a health care provider to the physically active in a wide variety of settings including:

  • High Schools
  • Colleges and Universities
  • Private Clinics
  • Hospitals
  • Industrial / Corporate


  • Experience working as clinicians in a variety of settings
  • Experience with preceptors through collegiate athletes, high schools and surrounding communities

Michael Brobston
Michael Brobston - Athletic Training Alumni

Currently: Certified Athletic Trainer for the SNU football team

Responsibilities: Michael Brobston aids student athletes in the prevention, recognition, evaluation, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries. He also serves as a preceptor to Athletic Training Students as SNU and is involved in state and national organizations.

Accomplishments: After graduating from SNU with a bachelor’s degree in Athletic Training, Michael passed his Board of Certification exam to be a Certified Athletic Trainer. He then earned his Master’s degree from the University of Central Oklahoma in Edmond. While at SNU, he was a President’s Ambassador and graduated Who’s Who of America’s Colleges and Universities.

In His Words: “My core athletic training courses were excellent in preparing me first for the BOC exam and second for the clinical world of athletic training. Specifically, each of the 6 practicums that were assigned throughout my time in the Athletic Training Program were most helpful in teaching me the ways of the athletic training room.”
