Rebekah Ambrosini, Assistant Professor of Voice at Southern Nazarene University shares information about the winners of a recent Oklahoma District National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) Vocal Competition.
“Three SNU students, Aubrey Wilson, freshman; Joel Wiley, Junior; and Erin Richard, senior; were finalists at the Oklahoma NATS (National Association of Teachers of Singing) Oklahoma District Competition at Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, Oklahoma, April 18, 2009,” said Professor Ambrosini.
Joel Wiley placed first in the Junior Men division and Erin Richard placed first in the Graduate Women division.
There were 187 students from Oklahoma universities and colleges participating in the vocal competition. As many as 72 vocal teachers brought students from the various Oklahoma universities and colleges.
"I am thrilled for the success of our SNU vocalists who were competing against some of the finest college vocalists in the state. This is a major success for our School of Music,” said Ambrosini.
“I am delighted to announce that we will be hosting [this same] Oklahoma District NATS competition on our campus for the first time next spring April 10, 2010. This competition is a wonderful opportunity for our students to test their skills as vocalists and to receive judging commentary from university vocal music professors,” stated Professor Ambrosini.
Rebekah shares with excitement, “The SNU School of Music is looking forward to providing as many opportunities as possible for young singers to hone their skills with master classes, recitals, competitions and performances. We are really looking forward to our fall musical, TheMusic Man, which will take place during the homecoming festivities next fall. Auditions for The Music Man, which are open to all SNU students, will be early next fall."
