It is not necessary to install the Novell client on your computer to access the Internet. If your network card is installed, you may connect to the Internet by following these steps:
FOR ALL WIRELESS CONNECTIONS:
- If your laptop does not automatically find and connect to "snu_wireless," you will need to select it from the list of available wireless networks.
- After you have connected to the wireless network, you can open your Internet browser. It should present you with a login page to access the wireless network. If you do not see this page and/or you receive an error message, type the address http://wireless.snu.edu into the Address bar.
- Occasionally, certain downloaded file-sharing software will cause your machine to be quarantined, preventing Internet access. If this happens, bring it to the Helpdesk office in Herrick 143 and we will help you fix the problem.

FOR ALL WIRED CONNECTIONS:
Windows XP - Right-click on Internet Explorer and select Internet Properties.
- Click on the Connection tab and then on the Setup button.
- Click Next and select "Connect to the Internet."
- Select "Connect using a broadband connections that is always on."
- Click Finish.
This will allow you to access the Internet, the SNU website, Moodle, and MySNU, which provides a link to email. It will not allow access to network drives such as your personal F: drive, which contains 25 MB of file space, or the group G: drive, which contains shared files used for classes, but these resources may be accessed via the NetStorage link found at MySNU.
On campus:
Each dorm room is equipped with a single network connection for student computers. Students wishing to connect more than 1 computer per room may purchase a hub and 3 network cables from any local computer retail store. One cable will run from each pc to the hub and one will run from the hub to the wall jack. Make sure to measure the distances from the wall jack to the hub and from the hub to the computers in order to buy the appropriate lengths of cable.
Using NetStorage to connect to SNU:
SNU Students are allocated 100 MB of personal network space on the F Drive to keep class work and other files in a central location. You may access your F Drive on campus by logging in using the Novell Client. The SNU Campus labs have the Novell Client installed. You can also access your F Drive from off campus via a web browser by going to NetStorage (https://home.snu.edu/NetStorage) and logging in with your username and password. NetStorage is a service that allows you to access your network drives, including your "F Drive and G Drive" via web browser. There is a link to NetStorage in MySNU under the Services menu.
NetStorage steps to follow: - Click on the NetStorage link.
- Enter your Network username and password.
- The NetStorage webpage displays the network files and folders currently available for each user.
- NetStorage provides many of the same features for working with files and folders available in Windows Explorer. By saving a file to your F drive, NetStorage allows you to download it at home, work on it, and upload it back to your F drive. You may only download files individually instead of collectively.
- To download a file, select the individual file, go to the File menu and choose download. Select where you want to save the file on your computer.
- To upload a file, go to the File menu again and choose upload. Click the Browse button and navigate to the file location on your computer. Double-click the file to select it, taking you back to the upload page, and click the Upload button.
Using FTP to connect to SNU:
- Go to http://filezilla-project.org/download.php
- Download and install the appropriate Filezilla FTP Client
- Click on Run
- Click on Run
- Click on I agree
- Click Next On All Users
- Click Next on Choose Components
- Click Next on File Location
- Go to Start/Programs/FileZilla and open FileZilla
- Go to File/Site Manager
- Click on New Site, Type SNU FTP as name.
- Click on Host: enter ftp.snu.edu
- Click on Server type and select FTP over explicit TLS/SSL
- Logon type: select Normal
- User: your MySNU username
- Password: your MySNU password
- Click on Connect
- Unknown Certificate: Check Always trust this certificate. Click on OK
- The left side of the window is your computer, the right side is your fdrive. You can drag folders and files from one side to the other.
- To exit, click on File/Disconnect
- Next time, open FileZilla and click on File/Site Manager/Connect and enter your password
